Chuck Bower for IKF Director

Some words from Chuck Bower regarding his campaign for IKF Director:

I am running for a position on the IKF Board of Directors and am asking for your vote. I have been involved with Karting since the mid 1980's in Sprint, Speedway, and Road Race. I have attended a number of the IKF Board Meetings over the past several years and feel I understand many of the issues.

It is my feeling that the IKF Board needs to listen closely to the concerns of the members. The Regions and Clubs should be given some latitude to structure their program and classes to meet the wishes of their members. This is the way new National classes will evolve as participation increases. A fine balance needs to be maintained with the future direction of IKF. On one hand, the rules and classes must be kept stable in order to help keep the karter's costs under control. On the other hand, new technology and products cannot be ignored and should be used in a responsible controlled manner.

Each year three of the nine positions are up for election. Gary LaPointe is one of the retiring board members and is not seeking re-election. Tim Doll, our Gold Cup Roadrace Coordinator, is a carry-over member and will be on the board next year. The Northwest, Region 6, is one of the most active regions and should be well represented on the board.

As a retired Boeing Engineer I have the time to devote to the responsibilities this position would require. It would be an honor to serve on the board. Thank you for your consideration.

Chuck Bower Information Sheet

From the Desk of the President by Gene Moon

The 1999 racing season for PSRRA came to a close October 16th, 1999 at Seattle International Raceway where 111 racers shared good racing and weather.

There was no comparison between the previous race on September 25th, 1999, which had 104 entries and 4 crashes that required medic runs and 3 racers hauled away to area hospitals for injuries. Those who experienced these crashes have all nearly recovered and have all been back to the track.

Steve Plank suffered a concussion and cracked rib plus lots of bruises, Shawn McDonald was badly bruised and had a slight concussion, Ron Hines has a concussion and some bruises. All were at the October 16th race event.

Lots of thanks to those who have given hours of time helping PSRRA race programs at Seattle and Bremerton events. Special thanks to Steve Plank, Steve Doty, Thomas Plante, Paul Bartow, Stan Park, and Jody Plank. As usual, we must take our hats off to Dorothy and Rex Hayes, who are always around at race time and afterwards to make sure the paper work is done correctly.

We haven't totaled all the racers who attended our races this year, but they are the ones who we thank because without the racers support we couldn't rent the tracks to put on some of the greatest road racing in the Northwest.

We have requested 4 races at SIR next year and on Bremerton event. If Portland has 5 instead of 4 races like 1999, and Spokane puts on 2 races, our road race program would have 12 events for 2000.

Of course we must submit the race dates to the Gold Cup Conference at Portland on November 20th and 21st.

Speaking of the Northwest Gold Cup Conference and Award Banquet, all the particulars are enclosed in this newsletter for your information. Plan on being there, because lots of people work behind the scenes to make the Awards Banquet a great time for NW Karters.
