About Puget Sound Road Race Association

Puget Sound Road Race Association has been providing road races in the Northwest since the early 1960's. Earlier was known as Kent Enduro Association, then Puget Sound Go Kart Assocation, and in June of 1998 became once again a separate club.

The International Karting Federation (IKF) along with World Kart Federation have been the bigger sanctioning organizations to provide leadership, and rules and regulations to help maintain an organized order in all types of kart racing. Each year PSRRA also participates in a Northwest Gold Cup Conference that controls racing schedules local option classes, and safety issues not address by the IKF rules and regulations.

The goal in road racing is to maintain a good balance of racing fast and maintaining the chain and tuned engine to last for 45 to 60 minutes. Tire management is also very important. The larger displacement enduro or road race karts are all gear box 250cc or 350cc engines and provide great acceleration and top speeds. Most larger engine classes such as 125cc to the 350cc classes have six speed gear boxes. Acceleration in any of the gear box karts is incredible for such a small race engine. The kart and driver must weigh a specific amount after the race event. This allows some classes to have drivers add or remove lead weights so they can race in several classes during a race event. There are presently 19 different classes in road racing. The engines range from 80cc to 350cc and provide competition for everyone's needs.

In the Northwest area, consisting of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Western Canada there are generally 10 to 12 road race events annually. The four road race tracks in the Northwest are Portland, Bremerton, Seattle, and Spokane. Bremerton is about 1.65 miles, Portland is 1.95 miles, Seattle is 2.25 miles, and Spokane is 2.5 miles. All four tracks offer completely different surfaces and challenges. All races (sprint and road race) are scored by a computer and transponder system that is the same type of system used by big name auto races.
